Dogs and cats age on average, five to eight times faster than humans. By age two, most pets have already reached adulthood. At age four, many are entering middle age. By age seven, many cats and dogs, particularly larger breed dogs, are entering their senior years.
Because pets age so rapidly, major health changes can occur in a short amount of time. The risk of heart disease, arthritis, kidney disease, cancer, diabetes, obesityand other serious conditions all increase with age. Early detection is important and annual health checks can help your veterinarian diagnose and treat problems early or even prevent problems occurring altogether, thereforeenabling the best possible outcome for your pet. Annual health checks also offer you a great opportunity to ask us about nutrition, behaviour or any other topics.
Vaccinations are a vital part of your pet's health, providing essential preventative care.
Unvaccinated pets are at a much higher risk of contracting infectious diseases that could otherwise be avoided.
Vaccinations should be done yearly in cats and dogs, or 6-monthly in rabbits. Puppies and kittens will need several boosters, so please call the clinic to discuss where your pet is up to and what they still need.
At each vaccination appointment your pet will receive a full health check, performed by either a veterinarian or vet nurse. Any concerns or abnormalities found will be noted and investigated at the visit. This allows us to ensure your pet is healthy, up to date with other preventative care and sustaining a healthy weight.
Dogs and cats age 5 times faster than humans on average, so these yearly checks are essential for us to keep up with them, or assist in detecting problems early.
